About the data
Where our listings come from, which registers and scheme lists we check, what “verified” and “company says” mean, how often we check, and how to get a listing corrected.
EcoGlo is an independent guide and directory. Listings are free. We check what we can against public registers and scheme lists; installers’ own claims are shown as their claims.
Where listings come from
- The installer’s own website — name, contact details (only the general business phone and email it publishes), offices and depots, the areas it covers, what it installs, who it works for, whether it offers finance, and the certifications and memberships it states. Each listing shows the pages we used.
- Scheme lists and registers — to check the certifications an installer states (see below).
- Companies House — company numbers, and to make sure a company is still active.
- Installers themselves — through “Update this listing” and add your company. We check what they tell us before publishing it.
We use directories, review sites and search results only to discover installers — never as a source of facts.
Lists we check against
| What | Where we check it |
|---|---|
| MCS certification | MCS installer search |
| RECC membership | RECC member list |
| HIES membership | HIES installer search |
| TrustMark | TrustMark search |
| Electrical schemes (NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, Stroma) | Each scheme’s own search — for example NICEIC and NAPIT |
| Which? Trusted Traders | Which? Trusted Traders search |
| ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 | UKAS CertCheck or the certification body’s own register |
| Company status | Companies House |
We use these lists only to check what an installer says and to link to its entry. We don’t copy or republish any scheme’s database, and we never show an individual’s name from a register. Some lists can only be searched by hand, so those checks take longer. Checkatrade and manufacturer approvals are shown only as the installer states them. No scheme endorses EcoGlo.
What the labels mean
- Verified — we found it on the scheme’s own list. The listing shows which list, the date we checked and, where the list gives one, the expiry date, with a link to the entry.
- Company says — the installer states it on its website, and we haven’t checked it yet. It may well be right; ask for the number and check it yourself.
- Not found when we checked — we looked on the date shown and couldn’t find a match. Lists lag behind, and entries can be under another trading name or number. We show this neutrally — it isn’t an accusation — and correct it as soon as we’re shown the entry.
- No longer current — the list showed it as lapsed, withdrawn or not renewed on the date shown.
- Expired — the list showed it as expired on the date shown.
Lists change. A check is correct on the day it was made — before you sign, check the current entry yourself.
Areas covered
Where an installer says which areas it covers, we show that in its own words. Pins on the map are its offices, showrooms and depots, not the limits of where it works. Where a firm appears to work from a home address, we show only the town and postcode area.
How often we check
Every listing shows the date it was last checked. We aim to re-check each listing at least every 6 months, and straight away when an installer asks us to update it or someone reports a problem.
Guides, figures and the estimator
Facts and figures in our guides and the savings estimator come from published sources — government, regulators, schemes and official statistics — each listed with the date we checked it. See sources and key figures.
Corrections
If you run a listed company, use Update this listing on your page. Anyone can use Report a problem. Or email hello@ecoglo.co.uk. We fix factual errors quickly and never charge for changes.
Distances, postcodes and maps
- Distances are straight-line (“as the crow flies”) from the centre of the postcode or town you enter to each installer’s nearest office or depot.
